Amaravati: The Election Commission of India has warned that if anybody indulges in an act of deleting voters from the electoral rolls by mischievous practice they will liable for criminal punitive actions.

Chief Electoral Officer of AP Gopal Krishna Dwivedi in a press release on Wednesday sad the commission received complaints from some voters and the public representatives that certain people were applying through Form-7 for deletions of the names or Form-6 for additions of the names in the voter list, en masse.

This was being doing through online method, without the consent and knowledge of the voters concerned, he said. Dwivedi further said that in many cases, this was being done for the nonexistent voters.

The CEO said that police have already been instructed to investigate and take criminal action in such cases if the allegations were found true. District collectors have already been advised to lodge complaints on this kind of mischief in case of receipt of genuine complaints, he added.

Concerned voters are also requested to cooperate in identifying such mischief mongers so that strong action can be taken against them, he advised.

All the voters in the state should rest assured that no deletions can be done by such kind of applications as deletions will be permitted only after detailed enquiry and verifications and after ascertaining genuineness of applications and the applicants and only after the approval of the Chief Electoral Officer, he explained.
