A tussle broke out between Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) officials and encroachers on Thursday as the board continued its demolition drive of illegal sheds and shops for the second day in a row at Karkhana. The board stated that more than fifty shops developed in B 4 category lands (under the control and management of SCB) were illegally occupied causing inconvenience to pedestrians and road users.

The board stated that more than fifty shops developed in B 4 category lands (under the control and management of SCB) were illegally occupied causing inconvenience to pedestrians and road users.


The encroachers staged a dharna stating that no notice was served to them prior to demolition. Syed Ahamed Pasha Quadri, MLA, Charminar, opposing the drive, said, “SCB should provide a specific notice and reasonable time for the encroachers to vacate the premises. My request to the board to allow time till Sunday on sympathetic grounds has gone in vain.”


The encroachers are planning to the approach Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and Defence Ministry in Delhi to provide alternative accommodation for their future. Karkhana and Marredpally Police including Army men intervened to control the agitated crowd.
