  • Collector Rajiv Gandhi Hanumanthu advises people to take precautions

District Collector Rajiv Gandhi Hanumanthu urged the residents to take suitable precautions to keep themselves cool and safe in hot weather. He advised them to move out of house only during morning and evening hours and to change food habits, avoiding oily items and cool drinks. He said they should take only water mixed with ORS or buttermilk.

The Collector told MGNREGS workers to go to the working spots only in the morning hours. Farmers should take precautions while working in fields and change the schedule according to weather conditions. The health department has taken up an awareness drive to educate people about averting heat wave conditions. ORS packets have been kept in all PHCs, he stated.

Meanwhile, in Kothagudem and other towns temperatures ranging from 40 to 42 degrees C have been recorded during the last week. Workers of the Singareni open-cast mine have been provided all facilities to bring out coal, Chief General Manager Sholam Raju told The Hans India. Since the first week of this month, tents and sheds have been erected in the quarries.

Buttermilk and ORS packets are being given to the workers. Cool water is being supplied during morning and evening hours. First aid centres have been established near OC-2 for treating workers hit by heat wave. The SCCL officials said similar facilities have been extended to the workmen in the Manuguru open-cast mine. Sholam Raju said if the temperature crosses 47 degrees Celsius work would be stopped from 1 to 4 pm in the open-cast mines.

In Bhadrachalam, the temperature rose in the afternoon during the last two days. On Tuesday and Wednesday, it was 42.4 degrees Celsius. The night temperature of 25 degrees C has been recorded.

Consequently, the number of devotees visiting the Bhadradri Sri Sitaramachandra Swamy temple has fallen steeply. The queue lines are virtually empty. Devotees have appealed to the Devasthanam to erect tents around temple to save them from extreme heat.

A senior citizen of the town Thandra Venkataramana Rao told THI that water kiosk facility, besides tents, should be arranged for the devotees. He wants them to be given buttermilk and ORS packs.
