Music connoisseurs were in for a treat this week as Goparaju Shreya, M Kamala Ramani and Satvika Jandhyala’s vocal concerts enthralled one and all
Pleasing vocals
Goparaju Shreya a disciple of Jayalakshmi Narasimhan opened her concert with Nata raga varnam and rendered it on a pleasing note. She took Begada (one of the difficult ragas) raga kriti, “Vallabha Nayakasya” of Thyagaraja with brief ragalapana and presented avruthas (music cycles) with cohesion. She picked up another nice kriti of Thyagaraja “Chalamelara Saketha Rama” (Margahindolam) and presented it well.
Shreya chose Syama Sastry’s Anandabhairavi kriti, “Mari Veregathi Evaramma” and sang it with a lucid ragaalapana. The main item of the evening was “Raju Vedaley Chootaamuraarey” (Thodi) of Thyagaraja, wherein Shreya gave good ragalapana. She executed the neraval part with aplomb particularly in the phrase, “Sevani Gani Surulu Virulache”. She concluded her recital with “Bhavayami Gopabalam” (Yamuna Kalyani) of Annmacharya which drew applause from the audience. Komanduri Anantha Sourirajan (violin), Paravasthu Srinivasa Gopalan (mridangam) and B Janaradan (ghatam) gave good instrumental support.
Lucid and attractive
Mallela Kamala Ramani was trained under DK Pattammal and Dr SK Venkatachari, an AIR artiste she won many laurels. Kamala Ramani started her recital with “Chalamela” Darbaru varnam. She then moved on to “Maru Balkakunna Vemiraa” (Sriranjani), which she presented with a brisk and attractive ragaalapana. This was followed by another kriti of Thyagaraja in Kedaragoula, “Venu Gana Loluni Gana Veyi Kannulu Kavaleney” and presented it with all its lyrical beauty. Ramani showed her creativity while rendering “Kanta Choodumee” (Vachaspathi) of Thyagaraja and she has executed expansion of swaras well.
Kamala Ramani took Deekshitar’s vilamba raga kriti, “Sri Krishna Bhaja Manasa” (Thodi) and presented on a pleasing note with attractive swarakalpana, which drew applause from audience. In Taniavarthanam, P Srinivasas Gopa lan (mridangam) showed his versatility. Ramani concluded the recital with “Parama Purusha” in behag.
A promising beginning
Satvika Jandhyala a disciple of late Nookala China started her maiden concert with Natakuranji varnam “Chalamela” and impressed the audience with her delivery. She took “Vatapi Ganapatim Bhaje” (Hamsadhwani) as a straight rendition and also as an invocation. She moved on to “Mundu Venuka Irupakkala Todai” (Darabaru) of Thyagaraja as a straight rendition. This was followed by “Marverey Gathi Evaramma” (Anandabhairavi) of Syama Sastry, “Anudinamuna Gavumayya” (Begada) of Patnam Subramanya Ayyar, “Pahimam Sri Raja Rajeswari (Janaranjani) of Sankaracharya, “Marugelara” (Jayanthisri) of Thyagaraja, wherein she showcased her talent in ragalapana and swaraprasthram.
Satvika chose “Palinchu Kamakshi” (Madhyamavathi) of Syama Sastry as the main item of the day and presented it with good ragaalapana. She was good at neraval but has to improve in manodharma, which is the prime ingredient for musicians to prosper. The taniavarthanam by Srinivasa Gopalan is good while KA Sourirajan followed the vocalist on violin. Satvika concluded the concert with “Jagadoddharana” (Kapi).
