Hyderabad: The GHMC has decided to involve more colony Welfare Associations in the Swachh programmes by reviving special awards every month in 11 categories. The award programme was stopped recently. Commissioner Janardhan Reddy decided that the deputy commissioners should present the awards on 5th of every month to RWAs, a press release issued by GHMC stated. Details of the awards have been placed on its website. Five colonies in each circle are to receive the awards, after being awarded 200 marks.

Under the 11 categories 50 marks each are to be given for segregating garbage, digging compost pits in houses/colonies and 30 marks for removing open garbage points. Twenty marks each are for voluntary participation in Swachh awareness programmes, recognising services of sanitation staff, prevention of open defecation, prevention of garbage burning, using plastic covers of more than 50 microns and novel Swachh programmes.

Ten marks each are for holding the Haritha Haram works and adopting street dogs under ‘maa inti nestam’ drive. The colonies are to submit their applications to the concerned DCs by 30th of every month. Dr Reddy said the applications would be verified by a third party before giving the awards.
