LB Nagar: Telangana SC/ST Commission chairman Errolla Srinivas on Thursday urged the police to take responsibility of delivering justice to victims of the attacks on SCs and STs. The chairman participated as a chief guest in a seminar on ‘SC/ST POA Act 1989 and latest judgments’ organised by Rachakonda Commissionarate at LB Nagar.

Police commissioner Mahesh Bhagavat presided over the seminar. Srinivas opined that attacks on SCs and STs could be averted by observing Civil Rights day every month. Mahesh Bhagavat called upon the police to know about the Acts. He explained about the ex-gratia extended by both State and Central governments to the victims of SC/ST cases and rape cases.

Srinivas said, “In a majority of cases the victims are poor, illiterate and do not have access to lawyers and cannot afford to hire them. Coupled with this, poverty too sets them back.” He urged the police department to empathise with them and lend a helping hand.
