Under the aegis of Minister for Minor Irrigation T G Venkatesh, 72 marriages were performed at the APSP camp here on Thursday in connection with the 63rd birthday of the minister. A Minister Venkatesh and his wife Rajyalakshmi sponsored the expenses for the marriages of persons belonging to various religions.

The minister said that it has been a tradition for the last several years to conduct mass marriages in connection with his birthday. Each couple had been given Rs. 20,000 in cash and presentations as per the traditions of their respective religions. Chairman of Legislative Council Chakrapani, Minister for Law and Justice Erasu Pratap Reddy, MLA Labbi Venkata Swamy, MLC Sudhakar Babu and others blessed the newly married couples.

Gym, indoor stadium in every ward: TG Inaugurating the State-level swimming championship here on Thursday, Minister for Minor Irrigation TG Venkatesh said that the Kurnool swimming pool had been developed in the last three years with the cooperation of the officials.

Chakrapani, chairman of Legislative Council, was the chief guest. Addressing the meeting in this connection, the minister thanked District Collector C Sudarsan Reddy, Joint Collector Kanna Babu and District Sports Development Officer Nagaraju for their cooperation and said that Kurnool would be developed as sports city with their cooperation.

He said that apart from developing swimming pool, an 8-km CC road was formed on the bank of KC Canal for walkers in the city. A About 400 competitors including boys and girls from 18 districts were here to participate in the championship.

Alampur MLA Abraham, Nandikotkuru MLA Labbi Venkata Swamy, Joint Collector Kanna Babu, former MLA Madan Gopal, DCC chief Y V Ramaiah, DSDO Nagaraju, Swimming association president Gorantla Ramanaiah, secretary Suresh Babu were present.
