As the new academic year is all set to commence in the next 10 days, the implementation of Telugu as a mandatory subject is still unclear. Earlier this month, an order was issued by the Telangana school education department introducing Telugu as a compulsory subject up to intermediate level from the 2018-19 academic year.

Earlier this month, an order was issued by the Telangana school education department introducing Telugu as a compulsory subject up to intermediate level from the 2018-19 academic year.

However, according to the school management, they are yet to receive any communication from the Telangana government on when the syllabus would be ready or when the textbooks would be available to them.

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has directed a committee, consisting of officials from the Potti Sriramulu Telugu University and Telangana Sahitya Akademy to frame the curriculum. Sources claim that the delay is being caused due to the disagreement between Telugu Sahitya Academy and the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) over the content and sharing of the responsibility.

The curriculum is expected to include topics such as Telangana festivals, cultural values, life stories of people who have contributed towards literature and moral values
