Nellore: Students from various schools remembered the sacrifices of martyrs of India’s freedom struggle on the occasion of 67th Independence Day at Police Parade Grounds in Nellore on Thursday. They presented various cultural programmes and sang songs. Minister for Finance Anam Ramanarayana Reddy attended as the chief guest and hoisted the national flag. District Collector N Srikanth, District SP Ramakrishna, Joint Collector Lakshmikantham, MLC Vakati Narayana Reddy, Nellore City MLA Mungamuru Sridhar Krishna Reddy, District Central Cooperative Bank Chairman Dhanunjaya Reddy and other higher officials took part in the programme.

Addressing the gathering, the Minister extended his warm Independence Day greetings to all and explained the district’s developments and future course of action. He said a fishing harbor for the development of fisheries will be constructed soon at Juvvaladinne village of Bogolu mandal. New revenue divisions will be established at Atmakur and Naidupet. The proposals to extend the NH 565 from Sironcha to Renigunta are ready and will be submitted to the Central government soon, he added.


The Minister said Tourism department has constructed beach resorts at Mypadu beach with Rs 3.50 crores and resorts at Tummalapenta and Kothakodur beaches with Rs 6.77 crores to develop the tourism. SHAR Centre Director Dr. MYS Prasad hoisted the national flag at SHAR and later distributed awards of excellence to the employees. Vikrama Simhapuri Vice Chancellor Prof. G Rajarami Reddy hoisted the national flag at the University and preached that youth should play a key role in the construction of the country.
