Srikakulam: Locals demanded a CBCID inquiry into the recent incident of a priest of the famous Sri Kurmam temple in the district trying to sell a wax impression of the main deity. They said that they did not trust the departmental inquiry into the matter. Endowments Assistant Commissioner Krishna Rao began an inquiry at the temple on Wednesday. Local leaders, temple development committee members and a large group of people attended. The public rejected the departmental inquiry and insisted that the government order a CBCID inquiry into the incident. The Assistant Commissioner said that he would refer the matter to the higher authorities. Later speaking to newsmen, he said that the priest who played the mischief has already been suspended. In the inquiry that would be conducted the rest who were involved will also be exposed, he said. Meanwhile, the purification ceremony of the idol of the main deity was performed on Wednesday early morning with Panchamrutham and applying sandalwood paste amidst chanting of mantras, he informed.
