OU staff donate Rs 14.36 lakh to TS CM relief fund

Hyderabad: Three Employees Service Associations of Osmania University along with Registrar Prof K Pratap Reddy, OU Finance Officer A Dayanidhi and TNGOs President Devi Prasad on Tuesday handed over a cheque amounting Rs. 14,36,760 to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao towards the Chief Minister's Relief Fund. The fund is meant for the benefit of families of "Telangana martyrs" who sacrificed their lives for the cause of separate statehood for Telangana.

The employees associations and authorities of Osmania University brought to the notice of the Chief Minister the financial crisis and problems being faced by the University.

The Registrar explained to KCR that they were unable to pay the monthly salaries as the present block grant of Rs 170 crores was insufficient and the pension benefits to the employees who retired after December 2013 had been kept in abeyance, pending release of money.

After listening carefully to the employees, the Chief Minister responded positively and ordered the authorities to arrange a review meeting with the authorities concerned and assured that the Block grants to all the Universities in Telangana would be enhanced substantially. The Chief Minister also assured special financial assistance to Osmania University on the occasion of Osmania University Centenary celebrations.
