Hyderabad: The Medical and Health Department is all set to adopt the best treatment practices in accordance with the World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines to malarial deaths. The Minister for Health, Dr C Lakshma Reddy, conducted a Video Conference with the officials of Medical and Health Department in tribal areas of Utnoor in Adilabad district, Eturnagaram in Warangal district and Bhadrachalam in Khammam district here on Tuesday.

The Commissioner of Family and Welfare Buddha Prakash, Director of Health Dr Lalitha Kumari and other officials were also present. Dr Lakshma Reddy questioned the officials on the practices being adopted to prevent malarial deaths. The Minister directed the officials reorient the programme in tune with the WHO guidelines.

A team of 30 doctors, 10 from Hyderabad and 20 from Nizamabad, were deputed to agency areas. The team of doctors would carry out house-to-house inquiries. “Uncomplicated falciparum malaria will progress rapidly to severe form of disease, especially among the people with no or low immunity, and severe falciparum malaria is almost always fatal if treatment was not immediately made available.

Therefore, programmes should ensure early diagnosis and prompt and effective treatment within 24–48 hours of the onset of malaria symptoms,” the Minister told the officials.
