Warangal: At a time when the coal mining industry is walking a tightrope due to widening gap between the production costs of the coal and it’s pricing in the open market, the State-run Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) is on the way to break its own record in terms of coal production.

The company, which achieved a coal production of 43.24 million tonnes in the first nine months of the 2015-16 fiscal, is all set to surpass its dream target of 60.03 million tonnes. Never before in its history,

the company had achieved 43.24 million tonnes at the end of nine months of a financial year, registering a growth of 23 per cent over last year same period. The company supplied a record 29.15 million tonnes of coal through 7,669 rakes to its clients, registering a growth of 31.5 per cent over last year same period.

It also managed to supply 8.67 lakh tonnes as per Fuel Supply Agreements (FSAs) to Kothagudem Thermal Power Station (KTPS) against commitment 4.75 lakh tonnes with 183 per cent achievement. Though the company had to supply 8.50 lakh tonnes of coal to NTPC in Karimnagar as per FSA, the supplies registered 120 per cent.

The company also supplied 4.67 lakh tonnes of coal to Raichur Thermal Power Station against its commitment 2.67 lakh tonnes. The SCCL also created a new record in removal of overburden during the current financial year. In the last nine months, the company has removed an overburden of 6.58 million cubic meters, achieving 17 per cent more than last year.

Meanwhile, the Adriyala longwall underground mining in Ramagundam of Karimnagar district, said to be the biggest in the country, has achieved a record coal production with 2.29 lakh tonnes in December month. Stating that SCCL has a crucial role to play in the rebuilding of Telangana state, the company Chairman and Managing Director N Sridhar said: “With the support of employees, the company is sure to achieve a record coal production in the next five years.”

The management’s slogan ‘One Per cent’, besides the C&MD’s individual appreciation to employees who excelled in their duties have done wonders for the company. According to company’s estimate, the ‘One Per cent’ difference could save the company a whopping Rs 26 crore per annum.
