Pillalamarri: A team of historians, exploring the history of Telangana with the help of Telangana Jagruti, have come across 15th century murals on two stone beams in the sanctum-sanctorum of the Nameswara temple here. The team of historians consisting of four members, Ramoju Haragopal, Vemuganti Muralikrishna and Ragi Murali and his assistant Nagaraju made the discovery.
In one of the paintings, angels and demons were seen churning the Ksheerasagaram making Vasuki, the serpent, as the rope. The first part of the second picture, depicted war, soldiers of the 15th century. One of the soldiers was a Muslim. In the second part, the war between Lord Rama and demon king Ravana was depicted.
On the second beam, the images were made obscure because a tube light was fitted to it. In fact, temples of Telangana at many places featured such murals. In Bhongir, murals from the Ramayana were featured in Ramalingeswara temple at Brahmanavada.
There are many coloured images at the Ram temple in Rachakonda. One can view the murals found in Alladurgam in the State museum at the Public Gardens in Hyderabad. Also, Bheema’s fighting wielding the mace can be seen in the Gontemma Guha (Kunti Cave) at Pandavula Gutta, which is renowned for its murals drawn in red colour.
