Hyderabad: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Spokesperson Krishna Saagar Rao on Friday said the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government clearly proved that it was incompetent to host the 105th Indian Science Congress (ISC), scheduled in the first week of January at Osmania University campus. The postponement of the event at the last hour certainly raised suspicion on the actual intention of the government.

He said the BJP strongly rejects the excuses being given by the Vice-Chancellor and others for the postponement. Osmania University students would not have obstructed a grand academic event like ISC. The TRS government had been working against the interest of Osmania University and its student’s right from the beginning of their regime, he added.

Further, the decision also highlights the dismal situation of higher education policy and infrastructural collapse under Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s rule in the Telangana State. Krishna Saagar Rao said the BJP will strongly protest the last-minute postponement of the prestigious event causing huge confusion and loss to hundreds of delegates, who were to attend the event at Osmania University two weeks from now.

The BJP Floor Leader in the State Assembly G Kishan Reddy alleged that the event had been postponed at the behest of the State government and demanded that the government reconsider the decision. He said the Andhra Pradesh government had held the 104th Indian Science Congress in a grand manner. But, the Telangana State government acted in haste and lowered the reputation of Osmania University.

He said the delegates from 62 countries have registered besides seven Nobel Laureates. While all arrangements have been made for the event spending crores of rupees and the delegates had already booked their air tickets and hotels, he said. He said the decision is not only an insult to OU, but also to the State and the country, he added.

Kishan Reddy demanded that the government reconsider the decision and added that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s aversion towards the university was the main reason for the postponement of ISC. The BJP leader also assured to the State government that his party will talk to the students of OU for the peaceful conduct of the ISC in the campus and urged to reconsider the postponement. He also criticised that World Telugu Congress (WTC) too had been held as it were a TRS meetings.
