Khammam: The role of Asha workers is pivotal in healthcare services, District Collector RV Karnan said. In a review meeting with the district medical and health officials here on Thursday, the Collector said that due to the services of Asha workers infant mortality has come down significantly. “The good work needs to be continued with Asha and Anganwadi workers coordinating with each other,” Karnan said.

Beginning with March month, Asha workers will be provided with special rooms in government hospitals and community health centres, along with meals facility, he said. A special desk will also be provided to Asha workers in all Anganwadi centres.

He emphasised the need for focusing on pregnant women. The health profile of the pregnant women should be updated at regular intervals, he advised the Asha workers. DM&HO Kalavthi Bai, District Hospital Superintendent Dr B Venkateshwarlu and DTCO Dr Subba Rao were among others present.
