Minister Puvvada Ajay and Khammam district collector RV Karnan vented ire at the officials over the demolition of encroachments on the lands belonging to Sangammeshwara temple in Tirthala village of Khammam rural Mandal.
In the morning, the officials of endowments department along revenue and panchayat raj officials went to the village to clear the encroachment which irked the villagers. The officials claimed that houses were built illegally in the temple lands. Meanwhile, the wife of the village sarpanch Balu Naik tried to commit suicide by consuming pesticide when the officials tried to demolish their house.
The villagers opposed the demolition and entered into a clash with the officials. However, the police team led by inspector Satyanarayana Reddy arrived at the spot and managed to bring the situation under control.
Later, the officials posted the situation to the collector who asked the officials to leave the area. RV Karnan expressed dissatisfaction over the officials for not dealing with the situation according to the procedures. He said that the officials who created tension in the village will be surrendered to the endowments commissioner.
