Karimnagar: District Congress Committee (DCC) leaders celebrated the 73rd birthday of All India Congress Committee (AICC) President Sonia Gandhi on a grand note here on Monday.
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) secretary Dr Anjan Kumar was the chief guest at the celebrations held at the party office here and cut a cake.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Anjan Kumar said that though Sonia Gandhi had a chance to become the Prime Minister after the sudden demise of her husband and late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, with firm determination to serve the nation she denied it and went on serving the people.
Understanding the problems of the people of Telangana region, it was Sonia Gandhi, who took the initiation and gave separate Statehood for Telangana. The people of Telangana too remember this, he said.

Later, the Congress leaders offered prayers at Kareemullah Shah Dargah under the leadership of Congress Minority Cell president Syed Akhil, seeking long life of Sonia Gandhi on her birthday.
