Hyderabad: The State government has begun the study of pros and cons of the implementation of gazette notification on the jurisdiction of Krishna River Management Board and Godavari River Management Board.

An official committee headed by State Engineer-in-Chief Muralidhar will prepare a report and submit it to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao in two weeks. A decision whether to handover the projects would be taken based on the outcome of the official committee recommendations.

Officials said that the committee would analyse the impact of takeover of projects with regard to release of water for irrigation and dinking needs from Krishna in Telangana.

The government strongly opposed the KRMB decision to take over the projects, including the hydel power generation units without the State's consent. The Telangana has been demanding to resolve water disputes first and then takeover the projects.

Sources said that the Chief Minister instructed the official committee to compile the data of water utilisation by Telangana at every project site and how it was deprived of use of its allocated water even after the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh in 2014.
