Korukonda: Former TDP MLA Pendurthi Venkatesh has demanded the government to pay crop insurance amount to the farmers immediately.

The farmers did not pay the premium relating to crop insurance with a belief that the government would pay it, he said.

After visiting damaged paddy fields at Kanupuru village of Korukonda mandal, he said the farmers incurred heavy losses as their crops damaged because of incessant rains.

Each farmer invested an amount of Rs 40,000 on each acre, he said and demanded the government to pay compensation to them immediately.

Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is showing step-motherly attitude towards farming community and neglecting the agriculture sector, he said, adding that it is the duty of the government to pay compensation immediately. TDP leaders Tanaakala Nageswara Rao, N Ramesh, Rongala Srinivas and others were present.
