He was speaking at the Bathukamma saree distribution programme, organised by Malkajgiri circle Deputy Commissioner, held in Balaji Function Hall here on Tuesday. RDO Madhusudhan, MRO Geeta, corporators Sridevi, P Pushpalatha, Vijayashanti, Narsinga Rao, Sirisha, co-option member Jyothi Goud and others attended the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, the District Collector urged women of the district to celebrate the festival with pomp and gaiety, as it was done in the rural areas. He said that saplings were also being distributed along with Bathukamma sarees and urged women to preserve environment by planting as many saplings as possible.
Deputy Commissioner Venugopal, providing details about the programme, said that 72,247 sarees would be distributed in Malkajgiri circle through 79 ration shops and 25,702 sarees through 26 shops in Alwal division.
The sarees were being given to all the women who were 18 or above years and sarees would be distributed from September 24 to 28 on the eve of Bathukamma festival, he said. A large number of women and TRS activists and leaders participated in the programme.
