The COVID-19 pandemic continues to rage through the country with the countrywide count now reaching 5,48,318, just over 1,600 shy of the 5.50 lakh mark, as per the latest update put out on Monday morning by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The death count now stands at 16,475. There are 2,10,120 active cases, while 3,21,723 patients have been cured or discharged. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has carried out tests on 79,96,707 samples and on Friday, 2,20,479 samples were tested.

Maharashtra, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Rajasthan have been contributing the most among the states in terms of the viral load in the country.
Maharashtra continues to be at the top as the worst-affected state with its COVID-19 tally now reaching 1,64,626 cases. The state has reported 7,429 deaths. Maharashtra has recorded 70,622 active cases, while 86,575 patients have recovered so far. The state reported 5,493 cases and 156 deaths on Sunday.
Delhi, which is recording around 3,000 confirmed cases in a day has reported 83,077 cases and 2,623 deaths. Delhi reported 65 deaths and 2,889 fresh cases on Sunday. It has recorded 27,847 active cases.
Tamil Nadu has reported an overall tally of 82,275 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 1,079 deaths. The state has reported 35,659 active cases, while 45,537 have recovered from the infection. Tamil Nadu recorded 54 deaths and 3,940 fresh cases on Sunday.
Gujarat has reported 31,397 COVID-19 cases. It has also tested fewer samples on Sunday (6,158) compared to Maharashtra (26,628), Delhi (20,080) and Uttar Pradesh (20,782) to name only three states among several others which have a higher testing average. Gujarat has 6,780 active cases and has reported 22,808 recoveries. The state has reported 1,809 deaths. Gujarat recorded 624 cases and 19 deaths.
Uttar Pradesh's tally has reached 22,147 confirmed coronavirus cases. 660 deaths have been reported from the state, 11 of them on Sunday. UP has reported 6,679 active cases, 599 on Sunday. The state has recorded 14,808 recoveries.
West Bengal has gone ahead of Rajasthan and has so far reported 17,283 cases of coronavirus, with 639 deaths. The state has reported 5,451 active cases, while 11,193 have recovered. West Bengal recorded 572 fresh COVID-19 cases and 10 deaths on Sunday.
Rajasthan has recorded 17,271 confirmed coronavirus cases so far with 399 deaths. The state has reported 3,261 active cases, while 13,611 have recovered. Rajasthan reported 327 cases and 8 deaths on Sunday.
Telangana in spite of very low testing, as compared to other states, has been recording high numbers. 983 COVID-19 confirmed cases have been reported on Sunday taking the state tally to 14,419 and 247 deaths. The state has reported 9,000 active cases and 5,172 recoveries.
Haryana which has seen a surge in the number of COVID-19 cases in recent weeks has reported 13,829 confirmed cases and 223 deaths. The state has reported 4,689 active cases and 8,917 recoveries. Haryana recorded 402 cases and 5 deaths on Sunday.
Karnataka has recorded 13,190 confirmed COVID-19 cases with the total death count in the state now reaching 207. The state has reported 5,476 active cases and 7,507 recoveries. A whopping 1,267 fresh cases were reported on Sunday, while 16 deaths were also recorded.
