A schoolboy died in a tragic turn of events while trying to re-enact the assassination of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh. A resident of Bholiya village in Madhya Pradesh district Mandsaur, 12-year-old Priyansh Malviya was found hanging on Sunday evening in a hut on his father's farm. News of the boy's death hit the villagers only on Thursday.

The child's parents told police officers he had recently been cast as a British soldier in a play performed during the annual event of his kindergarten. It was the day after his play that he tried to recreate the scene of the execution of Bhagat Singh. Unfortunately, he lost his balance and fell off the cot he used to support him.

An upturned cot lay near the boy's body at the time family members found him, along with a smartphone with a video clip of the play he had taken part in the previous day. Mandsaur Police Superintendent (SP) Hitesh Chaudhary has confirmed that the death of the boy has been a tragic accident. The post mortem report also identified suffocation as the cause of death, Chaudhary added. The boy is survived by his father who is a government school teacher and his mother, a home-maker. His teachers also expressed their heartfelt sorrow on hearing the news of his demise.

The tragic incident is reminiscent of a similar case reported from Mumbai in 2012. Influenced by crime shows on television, A 12-year-old boy has tried to re-enact a suicide scene. The exercise, however, went awry when it failed to maintain balance and accidentally killed itself. A Class 9 student, Aakash Gupta had tied his mother's dupatta to the ceiling and was standing on a small round plastic container in order to re-enact the suicide scene.
