Kakinada: The Kakinada Municipal Corporation authorities have taken up special sanitation drive to keep the city clean as part of preparedness for smart city tag. The authorities found the free movement of pigs, stray cattle and stray dogs as main obstacle in the betterment of sanitation conditions, apart from clearance of garbage.

Under the special drive, a five-acre government land at Chollangi in Kakinada city suburbs was allotted to about 100 pig rears to shift the pigs moving in city limits. As far as stray cattle menace is concerned, the authorities issued notices to owners over their movement on the streets. With respect to control of stray dogs, the ABC programme is being implemented for the identified dogs numbering around 15,000.

Besides this, lifting of garbage and sweeping was entrusted to sanitation workers. The authorities have also taken up drive to collect the garbage and waste material from commercial establishments particularly restaurants and hotels. In addition to this, mechanical lifting of waste materials along main road from Jagannaickopur Bridge to NTR statue at Sarpavram juncttion will be taken up in the next few days.

Kakionada Municipal Health Officer B Sailaja said that they would issue second notice to cattle owners in the next few days over movement of their cattle. If no positive response was not received, the stray cattle found on streets would be caught and sent to cattle centres, she added.
