Bobbili (Vizianagaram): Baby Naina, grandson of former chief minister of Madras state R V S Ramakrishna Ranga Rao belonging to the Bobbili royal family, is a pioneer in organic farming. Though he belongs to Bobbili Samsthanam, Naina is more interested in spending time with plants and nature. Further, adopting Subhash Phalekar’s mode of farming, the Raja scion is getting more productivity than any other farmer in the area.

Though he was born with silver spoon in his mouth, Naina is more interested in agriculture as he wants to be close to nature. He speaks and expresses his emotions with trees and plants as he personally participates in agriculture activities.RVSKK Ranga Rao, popularly known as Baby Naina, brother of Sujay Krishna Ranga Rao, third MLA of Bobbili, is more interested in farming. While his grandfather was a chief minister, Baby Naina’s father Gopalakrishna Ranga Rao was the MP of Bobbili.

Both the brothers -- Baby Naina and Sujay Krishna – have been staying in Bobbili and the former is very much into organic farming. He prepares natural manure with cow dung, jaggery and other elements. With this he gets high yield in sugarcane, oil palm, sapota and mango crops. He follows the method of Subhash Phalekar in farming and getting good results.

Phalekar, a progressive agriculturist from the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra, is known for his zero budget natural farming.
Naina goes to the field every morning and monitors the progress of the crops. He decides on the right choice of manure for the crop. Besides this, he is rearing a few cows for domestic usage of milk. Even the cows are being fed with organic grass.

“I am against the usage of chemicals and fertilisers. We should prefer natural manure like decomposed leaves, cow dung to others. I am getting more productivity with this method than by using chemical fertilizers,” said Baby Naina. Around 30 acres of sugarcane and oil palm are being grown using the Phalekar’s method of farming. Farmers from neighboring mandals visit him and take his advice on cultivation.

Even Naina helps people in children’s education and health, besides taking up development works in the area. “Sapota and mango grown with natural manure are tastier than others. I feel happy in spending time at my farm than spending in metropolitan cities. We should protect our soil and environment by using natural manure. We are really grateful to Phalekar for driving us towards natural farming and protecting our nature,” said Baby Naina.
