Vijayawada: Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) Director General Abhay Bhakre has appealed to all the State governments including Andhra Pradesh to take a proactive role in implementing energy efficiency measures mainly in buildings, industry, municipalities, transport, agriculture and DISCOM sectors to achieve the target as soon as possible.

The BEE Director General has also invited Andhra Pradesh to participate and showcase its best practices on energy efficiency front in the first ever energy efficiency training week for India in close collaboration with the International Energy Agency (IEA) in New Delhi from December 10 to 13.

In a teleconference with Principal Secretary for Energy and APCRDA Ajay Jain and the officials of AP State Energy Conservation Mission, Abhay Bhakre said that as a front runner State in Energy Efficiency Index, Andhra Pradesh was exhibiting excellent performance at national level.

“AP is working with a passion towards implementing energy efficiency measures and has become a role model for other States by implementing programmes like LED street lighting. We are inviting AP to participate in the first ever Energy Efficiency Training Week for India and asking to share its best practices with others,” he said.

Explaining the significance of the 4-day training course, he said it aims to build capacity among Indian policy makers at all levels of government with the skills to be more effective in their roles. The training event is also to share international and domestic best practices and bring together over 1,000 energy efficiency professionals from about 90 countries, primarily from government institutions and supporting organisations in emerging economies.

The training consists of four parallel courses on energy efficiency in buildings, appliances and equipment, industry and municipal and utility services. Stressing the need for implementing energy efficiency measures on a priority basis in all States, the DG said the primary energy demand in India has grown abnormally.

Directors of BEE Milind Deore, S Khandare, Saurabh Diddhi, Ashok kumar, Arijitsen Gupta, Vineeta Kanwal, Joint Director Pravati Samal and other senior officers from BEE participated in the teleconference.
