Actor Aman Verma reflects on his two decade journey in showbiz, learning curve, sting operation controversy and love life
Eventful journey Aman Verma came to Mumbai in 1996 just when television industry was poised for higher honours. For someone who has spent two decades in showbiz the journey looks quite inspirational. The actor feels that the struggle to success is easier than sustaining after achieving it.
“I have struggled in the initial years but I kept doing work that came my way. The big break for me came in 2001 with back to back major projects (Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Khullja Sim Sim) and there’s looking back. It changed my career graph. I have pushed myself as an actor, got fantastic projects and worked with great people, so it’s been a great journey,” he reflects.
Secret to success
Having spent over two decades in showbiz actor Aman feels his hunger to excel and constantly improve is one of the secrets to his success. “It all depends on how hungry you are whether you want to improve yourself every day, explore new things, etc. I still enjoy pushing myself beyond my comfort zone and maybe that’s one the reasons I was able to survive for such a long time. I draw inspiration from the three Khans and Big B. They have transformed themselves so well...they are still going strong even today,” echoes Aman.
Big B, a complete actor
The ‘Jaan-E-Mann’ actor, who had the opportunity to work with Amitabh Bachchan in two films - ‘Baghban’ and ‘Baabul’, opines that Big B is a complete actor. “I shared screen space with him for two films and also interacted with him while hosting a few awards ceremonies. It’s been a great learning experience and he’s an institution. I observed his body language and approach to acting. I remember during ‘Baabul’, he was rehearsing for his lines with us on the sets when there was a delay in the shot, so that just goes to show his dedication. Watching him on the sets was like watching what complete actor is all about.”
To get hitched soon...
Interestingly, Aman got engaged to someone who tied Rakhi to him on-screen. Ask him how the feeling is, he replies, “It’s hilarious! She’s a television actress and I met her on the sets of one of my soap operas. It definitely feels different after being in a relationship (smiles). You want to come back to that person, meet and talk as often as possible. It’s great to have someone who you can trust, go out and have fun.
We understand each other well and are pretty vocal about everything. We respect our commitments and try to make time for each other. The most amazing gift she gave me was the engagement ring (smiles). We’re looking for the right date to enter into wedlock.”
