Afzalgunj: In the continuous crackdown against manufacturers and sellers of the tobacco products, the Task Force team arrested four including three from a family. The father and his two sons were allegedly involved in running zarda manufacturing units for some time.

Two zarda (flavoured tobacco used in paan) units were raided in Afzalgunj and Begum Bazar and four accused, including three of a family were arrested by the Task Force. Different types of chewing tobacco products and other material worth Rs 15 lakhs was seized from two locations.

The accused Om Prakash, 53, and his sons Karan Sugandhi, 29, and Kunal Sugandhi, 26, and another accused G Krishna Mohan were involved in 'illegal trade'. While the trio of the family were residents of Razzakpura, Goshamahal, the fourth accused Krishna Mohan, 46, owner of Spectra Enterprises (Printing press), is a resident of Agriculture Colony in Hastinapuram, Hyderabad.

During interrogation the Om Prakash confessed that his father started the business of manufacturing and supplying of zarda in Begum Bazar. After his demise he started running the zarda business. S Chaitanya Kumar, Additional DCP, Task Force informed that he used to procure raw tobacco material from one Muneer, resident of Bahadurpura.

He procured chemicals from Delhi and packing material from another accused G Krishna Mohan. He has been running these two units for the past 3 years. “He has some permanent customers in Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana state and he supplies the same to them clandestinely on huge profits,” he added.
