Call for completion of hydel power project at the earliest

mlc2Vijayawada: The MLCs from Krishna and Guntur districts, here on Wednesday, appealed to the State government to direct the Genco to complete the hydel power project at Pulichintala at the earliest.

The MLCs, Dr Rayapati Srinivas, KS Lakshmana Rao, TGV Krishna Reddy, Ilapuram Venkaiah and Boddu Nageswara Rao visited the Pulichintala Project site and inspected the progress of works.

They said that the works were expected to be completed in the next two months. The officials have fixed 17 gates out of total 24 gates for the project to store 47 TMCs of water. A The road above gates was also ready for public use, they said.

However, they expressed concern over delay in completion of the hydel project, which was taken up by the APGenco at a cost of Rs 380 crore.A They said that the project was designed to generate 120 mw of power once completed and would help the State to tide over the present power crisis. They felt that the works on the project should be speeded up and completed along with the storage project.

The MLCs said that they would meet the Chief Minister, N Kiran Kumar Reddy next week and give him a representation on the Pulichintala project and the hydel project.

They also requested the officials of the irrigation department to ensure that the relief and rehabilitation programme was implemented properly so that every displaced person under the project is benefitted. The MLCs said that the government had allocated Rs 200 crore for the project in 2013-14 budget, of which Rs 100 crore was for R & R package. They urged the government to help every displaced family in the project.

Bat for Ilapuram The MLCs thanked the State government for allocating Rs 25 crore for the Andhra Pradesh Kummari Salivahana Cooperative Federation. They asserted that the funds would help the Federation to start its activities helping the poor Salivahanas in the State.

They further said that the Legislative Council had made unanimous request to the State government to appoint MLC Ilapuram Venkaiah, as Federation chairman. They expressed confidence that the Chief Minister N Kirankumar Reddy would honour the unanimous decision of the Legislative Council and clear Venkaiah's name shortly.
