Warangal: Former English Professor of Kakatiya University Prof S Lakshamanamurty urged the people to learn Sanskrit to enjoy the beauty of the flowery language.

Participating in the prize distributing ceremony organised by Ganesh Utsava Samithi in Hanumakonda town on Wednesday, he said that people should uphold the values defined in the Vedas, Upanishads and other Hindu religious scriptures. He asked the people not to emulate foreign culture neglecting the greatness of Indian culture.

Addressing the gathering, KU Law College Dean Prof MV Ranga Rao, lauded the Srinagar colony development committee and Ganesh Utsava Samithi for organising the nine-day long festival by giving importance to culture and traditions.

With an intention to help the underprivileged, the Samithi invites inmates of physically or mentally challenged homes every year to participate in cultural programmes and cash prizes would be given to those who perform them.

This year, inmates of Athithi Manovikasa Kendram presented cultural programmes. Impressed with their inspiring performance, the residents raised and donated cash of Rs 15,000, groceries worth Rs 5,000 and 2.25 quintals of rice to them.

Similarly ‘The Challenge Dream Dance Troupe’, a group of physically challenged youth was also invited to perform at the colony’s Ganesh pandal. The troupe leader G Santhosh was presented an amount of Rs 15,000.

Speaking to The Hans India, the Samithi convener Paladugu Chandraprakash Rao and Srinagar colony development committee in-charge president K Veeraiah said that they took up such programmes to instil philanthropic spirit among the residents.

Sulakshya Seva Samithi president Manduva Santosh, the Srinagar colony committee general secretary B Narayana, members A Buchi Reddy, D Malakonda Reddy, M Ravinder Reddy, K Aagaiah, D Sammaiah, and others were present.
