Hyderabad: With a view to keep a strict watch on the garbage collection and its disposal in towns and cities of the State, the Municipal Administration and Urban Development department has decided to fix GRPS tracking system in the vehicles.

This programme will be taken up in five Municipal Corporations and seven Municipalities all over the State. The garbage disposal vehicles in Khammam, Karimnagar, Ramagundam, Nizamabad and Warangal Municipal Corporations and seven municipalities would be fitted with Vehicle Tracking System.

Municipal Administration director T K Sridevi told The Hans India that they are negotiating with the Centre for Good Governance to acquire the vehicle tracking equipment.

Assistant director of MAUD K Phalgun Kumar said that by March all the garbage disposal vehicles in selected municipal corporations and municipalities would be fitted with the tracking system.

He said that the Commissioners of municipalities can monitor the movement of disposal vehicles from their offices with the help of GRPS technology.

The officials are of the view that the garbage disposal system in the urban local bodies was not effective enough and money spent on the activity has been going waste.

As there was no monitoring, the drivers and supervisory staff of garbage disposal vehicles were fudging the records.

Drivers of some vehicles did not carry the garbage to the dumping yards and enter false information in the records on the number of trips made to draw money for filling the oil tanks.

Owners of the hired vehicles used for garbage disposal also indulge in this practice and draw money without making trips as required.

To correct this issue, the MAUD has decided to fix vehicle tracking equipment in the disposal vehicles.
