Hyderabad: The Enforcement Directorate (ED), probing the illegal mining case related to Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC), has filed the charge-sheet in the designated court here.

The ED charge-sheet named mining baron Gali Janardhan Reddy, OMC managing director B V Srinivas Reddy and a few others as accused in the case.

The ED began its probe into the illegal mining after the Central Bureau of Investigation registered a case and filed charge-sheet some time ago against OMC for allegedly carrying out illegal mining misusing the mining lease.

The ED also registered a case and investigated the matter. The OMC had secured two mining leases for extracting iron ore in an extent of 108 hectares at D Hirehal mandal in Anantapur district in Andhra Pradesh. The 108 hectares are spread over two different locations.

Though not much of ore was extracted from these two areas, the OMC had used them for legalising its 190 lakh tons of illegal iron ore extracted from Karnataka. AP authorities were accused of extended several undue favours to OMC.

The CBI alleged that the officials had issued transport permits to give an official colour to the illegally extracted iron ore.
