Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation missed the target of identifying lands and finalising tenders for constructing double bedroom houses for urban poor at several locations across the city.

The State government has instructed the corporation to complete the target by August 15 but due to lack of co-ordination between district authorities and corporation the flagship 2BHK programme will be delayed further. According to GHMC officials, the civic body has finalised 102 locations to construct 70,908 houses.

The 2BHK houses will be constructed on 433.31 acres. However, out of the finalised sites about six locations including Bairagiguda (216 houses), Budvel (130 houses), Maildevarapally (340 houses), Yamnampet (1,980 houses), Ramakrishna Nagar (384 houses) and Joshiwada (400 houses) are under dispute or facing court cases.

Interestingly, tenders have been finalised for constructing 2,052 houses at Mangalpally but the District Collector said that land cannot be given. When queried about the same , a senior GHMC official told The Hans India civic body will achieve the target on time.

He said that the GHMC will soon call the tenders to construct 21,410 2BHK houses on 140 acres in Kollur, Bhojagutta, Keshavanagar, Batasingaram, Ghatpally, Maildevarpally and Makhal. He also said that the GHMC has already finalised sites to construct 64,406 houses on 402 acres.

The GHMC official further said that the corporation will soon pool 100 acres of land in order to construct 15,000 houses.
He said that even though there has been delay in the 2BHK project the corporation will achieve the target by December 2018. He said GHMC has taken works on warfooting and will lay foundation stone to one lakh 2BHK houses by September last week.
