Khammam: The members of the Momin Committee distributed blankets to mentally retarded and shelterless poor people living on the roadside at the bus stand, railway stations, church compound, Gandhi Chowk and near the government hospital keeping in view the severe cold in the city in Khammam on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, the committee president Gollegudem Madar Saheb said that several social service activities are taken up by the organisation members for the wellbeing of downtrodden and welfare of Muslims. On number of occasion, the committee members took up the issues of muazzins(person calls for prayers-azaan) and Imaams(who leads the prayer) to the notice of the government and demanded the government to provide basic facilities like shelter for muazzins in mosques and separate quarters for Imaams, but the government did not respond till date.

He demanded, the government to sanction Rs 8,000 salary per month to the mouzans and imaam and pension of Rs5,000 after their retirement along with allotting Indiramma houses and double bedroom houses to them. The committee members Sharif, Akthar Siddiq, Lal Mohammad, Patha Pasha, SK Yakub, S K Azeez, SK Ismail, Parvez, SK Akthar, SK Shabeena, SK Tahareen, M Shajahan, Dilshad, Shaheen and Chandini others participated in blanket distribution.
