Prof Leo Groarke, Provost and Vice-President of the University of Windsor (Canada), visited GITAM University here on Tuesday. Prof Groarke interacted with GITAM President Dr M V V S Murthi, Chancellor K Ramakrishna Rao, Vice-Chancellor G.Subrahmanyam, Pro Vice-Chancellor.D Harinarayana, Registrar Prof M Potharaju, UGC Affairs Director Ch Ramakrishna and other senior faculty members.

Visakhapatnam: Prof Leo Groarke, Provost and Vice-President of the University of Windsor (Canada), visited GITAM University here on Tuesday. Prof Groarke interacted with GITAM President Dr M V V S Murthi, Chancellor K Ramakrishna Rao, Vice-Chancellor G.Subrahmanyam, Pro Vice-Chancellor.D Harinarayana, Registrar Prof M Potharaju, UGC Affairs Director Ch Ramakrishna and other senior faculty members.
Dr Murthi explained to him the initiatives of GITAM to bring international standards in professional programmes with international tie-ups. He observed that international collaborations can be a major driver of institutional reforms. He stressed that priority should be given to the development of sustained capacity for high caliber research, especially as each nation strives to participate in and shape the knowledge economy. This may be achieved through setting up of joint venture centers of excellence, joint projects and programmes, and facilitating development and mobility of academic scholars.
Prof Groarke appreciated the research interests and facilities at GITAM University. Briefing the GITAM officials about the University of Windsor, he invited them to collaborate in research with Great Lakes Institute for Environmental Research (GLIER) in many disciplines such as Biology, Geology, Chemistry, Engineering, Marine Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics and Ecology.
He said that the special attraction of University of Windsor is its location at North America’s busiest international border crossing. He also discussed possible collaborative research and teaching programms in Engineering, Law, Architecture, International Business and Science.
Vice-Chancellor Subrahmanyam briefed him about the GITAM University’s achievements and research priorities. He said that GITAM University had signed an MoU with Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, HPCL, BARC, IBM, TCS, NSE and others to strengthen its academic programmes. He also informed about the various ongoing research projects, patent registrations. The University academic heads, institutional deans, principal and senior faculty members also interacted with the University of Windsor Vice-President.
