The officials of GHMC has taken up eco-friendly measures this Bakrid by planning to generate poultry feed from the animal waste. The civic body has also tied up with a plant for the initiative.

Instead of sending the waste to Jawaharnagar dump yard from the slaughterhouse located at Ziaguda, the waste will be converted as poultry feed, said GHMC zonal commissioner of Khairatabad, Musharraf Ali Faruqui adding that it will reduce transportation and air pollution in the city.

Around Rs 2.43 crore was allocated for Bakrid this year for the distribution of plastic bags, the arrangement of mini tippers and 50 earth movers to carry the waste. The plastic bags will be given to people on the festival day and the next day to collect the animal waste and hand it over to the GHMC staffers.
