Visakhapatnam: Adopting a host of safety measures, Visakhapatnam city police is now Covid-19 free.

With 698 cops, who got infected with Covid-19 while attending duty during the lockdown period and four succumbing to the virus, the city police have come a long way in bringing the active cases to zero.

From setting up a dedicated coronavirus cell to distributing a life-saving drug to the police personnel, arranging separate wards for the treatment to supplying nutritious diet to the patients and conducting a slew of health awareness camps in all police stations, several factors added to gaining the infection-free status.

Sharing the details, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-I) Aishwarya Rastogi says strict adherence to safety measures is one of the prime reasons for the coronavirus-free maintenance among the city police. "Special focus is paid on conducting coronavirus tests for the police personnel at regular intervals. Use of face shields, glass shields in the stations, maintaining social distance and practising hand hygiene played an imperative role in placing a check on the pandemic," explains the DCP.

In addition, ensuring sufficient supply of masks, sanitisers, face shields to the police personnel attributed to containing the spread of virus.

About 3,811 cops, including 875 home guards, strived relentlessly in times of the lockdown, keeping a close watch on various containment zones.

However, following safety protocols diligently, the Visakhapatnam police has now gained Covid-19-free tag.
