Khairatabad: Institution of Engineers (IEI) Telangana State Centre conducted a lecture on “Conservation of Petroleum Products” on Thursday at Khairatabad.

Deputy Director of Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) B Rajesh Naik said “India is one of the largest contributors, consumer and importer of petroleum products. The demand for petroleum products is increasing at an alarmingly accelerated rate. With current rate of consumption, our known oil reserves will last only for 30-40 years.

This is heavy strain on our economic resources and call for an urgent need to conserve petroleum products. There is a vast scope of petroleum conservation in India provided there are technological improvements, financial incentives, policy initiatives and legislative measures for implementing conservation. Transport, industry, domestic and agriculture are four major sectors which consume bulk of petroleum”.

He added “Awareness programmes for each sector need to be developed and then extensive publicity of the measures which would bring about savings need to be undertaken to bring about the desired results. These activities are promoted and coordinated by the (PCRA) and Oil Marketing Companies under the guidance and supervision of Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas.”

Chairman Energy Conservation Mission Tayi Krishna Rao, Earlier Secretary Dr G Rameshwar Rao, Convener Energy Conservation Mission E Srinivasa Chary were also present during the lecture.
