Hyderabad: Justice P V Sanjay Kumar of the High Court at Hyderabad on Wednesday directed the police authorities to make necessary arrangements for the Madigala Ratha Yatra proposed by Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MTPS) from March 10 to April 30 demanding SC categorisation.

The judge was dealing with a petition filed by U Bramahaih representing the MRPS. The petitioner contended that the government of Andhra Pradesh was adopting anti-Madiga policies. The petitioner pointed out that he had approached the DGP for permission to organise Yatra. The yatra would start from Naravaripalle and reach Vijayawada via Ananthapur, Kadapa, Kurnool, Prakasam, and Guntur.

He contended that the MRPS had approached the DGP instead of seeking permission from Superintendents of Police in each district. The counsel for the Home Department pointed out that though the head of law and order of the State was the DGP, it was up to the SP/Commissioner of Police of each district to permit a meeting or a procession depending on the situations prevailing in the area.

Taking the observations of the counsel on file, the judge directed the SPs and Commissioners of Police to take a decision keeping in view the law and order situation in permitting Yatra of petitioner’s organisation and told the petitioner to make an application to the Vijayawada Police Commissioner to their proposed congregation on April 30. The judge directed the Police Commissioner to pass appropriate orders after receiving such application from the petitioner.
