Hyderabad: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Telangana president Dr. K. Lakshman on Sunday praised the role played by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in merger of ertswhile Hyderabad State into Indian Union.
Speaking after felicitating the actors who worked in a Telugu film on last Nizam of Hyderabad, Lakshman said people of Hyderabad would remain indebted to Sardar Patel for his role in ending Nizam's Kingdom. He said although India achieved independence on August 15, 1947, it was only after 13 months and two days that the people of Hyderabad could call themselves Indian.
Lakshman said without Sardar Patel, Hyderabad State could have become another Pakistan or Bangladesh and life would have been a hell for its citizens in an Islamic country. He praised the new film made on Nizam and said it reflected the atrocities committed by Razakars. He also recalled the role played by Arya Samaj and Andhra Maha Sabha who fought against the then Nizam Government.
The BJP chief also criticised Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao for not organising Hyderabad Liberation Day on September 17 at official level. He alleged that KCR Government has been functioning under the pressure of MIM. He said that the BJP would organise programmes at village level to pressurise the TRS Government to conduct officials celebrations of Hyderabad Liberation Day.
