Dharmika Parishad to oversee temples: KCR

Hyderabad: The Telangana government has decided to implement pay scales to over 5,000 archakas and temple employees from November on par with the government employees.

Announcing this after a review meeting with Archakas at Pragathi Bhavan here on Friday, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao said the government would also extend the ‘Dhoopa Deepa Naivedyam’ scheme which is presently being implemented in 1805 temples to another 3,000 temples.

The Chief Minister said from now onwards, Archakas and other temple employees numbering about 5625 will get their salaries on 1st of every month like any other government employee. They would get salaries based on their status like the government employees.

“You will not get salary in October as the officials would be finalising the numbers and finalise the scales and the pay scales will be implemented from November onwards. Whenever the PRC is implemented to the state government employees, temple employees would automatically get the salaries as recommended by the PRC,” the Chief Minister added.

KCR said severe injustice was done to the temples in the Telangana region during the united AP rule. “Our temples have not been treated as temples or our Pushkarams as Pushkarams.

Nobody took any interest in the development of temples but after Telangana was formed, we started paying attention towards the development of all temples and the problems faced by the Archakas and the welfare of Brahmins.

We are developing Yadadri, Vemulawada, Bhadradri and other temples in a planned manner,” he said. The CM said a majority of the Archakas were finding it difficult to make out a living.

Parents are not giving their daughters to the families of Archakas in marriage since Archakas’ salaries are dependent on the temple managements. There would be a drastic change in that situation from now onwards, he added.

KCR declared that the Dharmika Parishad would come into effect immediately. The Parishad would supervise and monitor temple-related issues, he said, adding that this would reduce government’s role.”

The Dharmika Parishad would plan programmes in consultation with Tridandi China Jeer Swamy, Sringeri Peethadhipathi and Kanchi Kama Koti Peetaadhipathi.
