Warangal: Know Swami Vivekananda to learn the glory of India, suggested Additional DGP, Maharashtra, V V Lakshmi Narayana. He addressed a huge gathering of students at NIT Warangal and interacted with them, marking the National Youth Day celebrated across the nation on Friday, on the occasion of 155th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.
Lakshmi Narayana said most often individuals, who made a mark on the society, were glorified instead of the values for which they stood for and ideals they taught. He felt that such trend should change, asking the students to look for the values to emulate. A major problem that troubles the society was fear of change. One should always be ready to face the change and change for good. ‘Training our body, mind and thought process towards higher standards would help change the society as well,’ he noted.
‘Finding happiness in the faces of those we serve is the key to success of human life. That is why I joined the Civil Services,’ the official stated adding that everyone should become a centre of excellence at individual level. The NIT Warangal has organised a weeklong Student Empowerment Programme marking the National Youth Day. Talks by industry leaders such as Padma Shri BVR Mohan Reddy, Executive Chairman of Cyient Hyderabad and others were delivered.
The Science and Hobbies Club of the institute also conducted various events as part of the programme. A quiz competition by the Astronomy Club was held to recollect the contributions of ancient Indian astronomers and mathematicians.
Similarly, Brahmana Seva Samithi and Dharma Jagaran Manch have organised a programme at Papaiahpet Chaman in Warangal on Friday and paid rich tributes to Vivekananda. Addressing the gathering, Brahmana Seva Samithi leader Valluri Pavan Kumar and a noted doctor Panchal Roy said the philosophy of Vivekananda and the ideals for which he lived and worked were a great source of inspiration for the youth in India.
‘Swamiji played a significant role in taking Indian philosophies of Yoga and Vedas to western world with his speech at the World's Parliament of Religions in Chicago in 1893, though he lived for just 39 years. He was aptly called the ‘Messenger of Indian wisdom to the world,’ they added.
