Meeting your potential partner can make you nervous. Scenes from Shahid Kapoor and Amrita Rao-starrer Vivaah flash right in front of your eyes, don't they? There's no surprise if you get anxious thinking about what to expect and what not to expect. Thoughts like whether you'll like him or not, what kind of questions he/she might have, what kind of questions you are supposed to ask and whether you will end up liking or no is a nail-biting situation from start to end. We jot down some thoughts that one usually has before meeting his/her partner and partner's family:

Am I dressed well for the meeting?

A basic thought every person has before an important meeting or probably an interview is – am I dressed well for the occasion? The first impression is the last impression, and you don't want to leave any stone unturned before meeting your partner. Anxiety makes you more picky about the minutest details – have I polished the shoe enough? Are there any creases on my dress? Is the makeup alright? And you feel like your head will explode! It's okay, you can chill. These thoughts are common and can be dealt with easily. Be your normal, charming self and that's enough to light sparks at your meeting.

What questions do I ask?

Here comes the serious task at hand! You meet your partner, munch on those amazing fritters and sip on some delicious mango juice. Later comes the essential part – getting to know him/her. We know it's impossible to gauge a person on a few questions but asking simple questions that reveal his likes, dislikes, favourite pastimes, sports he/she likes to indulge in or as simple as a favourite cheat meal can give you a fair understanding of what the person is like. Of course, questions like career aspirations, what does he/she expect from you, when does he/she plan on having a child, what does his/her family do and their expectations towards you would be safe to ask on your first meet.

Whether he/she will be comfortable dating before getting married?

One thing that you look for in your partner is compatibility and there is only one way you can do that – by spending enough time together. Sit down together and see if both of you are okay with dating each other for a while. If you are, that will give you a clearer understanding about how you vibe together and gives an understanding if you would really want to marry the person and spend the rest of your life with. Give each other enough time and space to get comfortable and go with the flow.

In India, you don't just marry your partner; you marry his/her family as well. This makes it even more important to see if your partner can adjust well with your family. Thus, making your partner more accustomed to your family and vice versa will be a big advancement in your relationship. It is better to lay out your expectations, if any, beforehand than keeping quiet and having problems crop later. Understand you are entering a holy union and begin that with a clear mind and Intentions.
