Country’s second largest car manufacturer, Hyundai India has registered their highest ever domestic sales for the calendar year of 2016 ending December 31. In the period from January 1 to December 31, 2016, Hyundai sold a total of 5,00,537 cars in the domestic market, thereby registering 5.2 percent growth as compared to sales registered in the previous calendar year (4,76,001 units).

For the month of Dec 2016, the company registered sales of 40,057 units, which is a decline of 4.3 percent as against sales registered in Dec 2015. The decline in the month of December was largely due to the demonetization. The company expects the sales to be back on track soon.

The company owes this success in the domestic market to innovative new-generation cars like the Creta, i20 and the Grand i10. All three of which have become a huge success in the country. Hyundai’s market share in the country too is at an all-time high of 17 percent.

The company aims to increase this number by 1 percent every year in their long-term goal of becoming the largest car manufacturer in the country. As of now Maruti Suzuki is the largest car maker in India with a market share of 47 percent.

Launches this year from Hyundai India include two premium cars the new Elantra and Tucson. Apart from that, Hyundai India also launched special editions of their Grand i10 and Xcent, which marked the brand’s 20th anniversary in India.

In 2017, Hyundai India is expected to launch the facelift versions of Grand i10, Xcent, New Gen Verna, and the Creta facelift to keep the sales momentum going.
