Guwahati: Sahanur Alam, one of key accused in the Burdwan blast case was escaped, when Assam police had launched operation to nab him in Assam’s Dhubri district along the Bangladesh border on the wee hours of Wednesday, police said.

Police arrested two persons during the operation, who gave shelter to Sahanur, Most Wanted of National Investigation Agency (NIA).

Dhubri district SP Mridulananda Sarma said that, following a tip-off, police had launched operation at Medartari area near Fakiraganj along the Bangladesh border around 2-30 am on Wednesday, where Most Wanted Sahanur Alam was took shelter.

“Sahanur Alam took shelter at a house, owned by Jamsher Ali and managed to flee before police reached the area,” the police official said. Police arrested two persons named Sahanur Ali and Abdur Nur and recovered a mobile handset, which used by Sahanur Alam.

“We have launched operation to nab the key accused in the Burdwan blast and alert in Indo-Bangladesh border area,” Dhubri District Sarma said.

NIA has announced Rs 5 lakh reward to anyone for providing information leading to Sahanur Alam's arrest. Police has interrogated the arrested person duo to collect more information.

Assam police had arrested a total of 12 persons including Sahanur Alam’s Jihadi wife Sujina Begum in connection with Burdwan blast so far.
