Vijayawada: Overflowing of side drains at Bhramaramba Puram in Krishna Lanka (24th division) is creating inconvenience to the residents of that area.

The side drains were blocked by some residents creating blockage to the flow of drain water. The water stagnated for weeks has been emitting foul smell and breeding mosquitoes. The underground drain pipes were repaired and replaced about 7 years ago in that area. At present there was no proper flow of drain water through those drain pipes due to lack of maintenance and repairs.

The residents of 24 division, complained to the local corporator to pursue the matter, but nothing had changed till now and the residents had to suffer from frequent diseases and illness.

Y Bhagya Lakshmi, a resident of that area narrated her sad saga to ‘The Hans India’ and said they had been suffering from the overflowing side drains for a long time. It was becoming very difficult for the residents to come out of their houses. “Us neighbours used to sit and chat at evenings but now we are restricted indoors gripped with fear of mosquito bites and the foul smell,” she added.

Another resident Shantamma said that kids were falling sick due to mosquito bites and foul smells. She informed that VMC Commissioner had visited their area many times in the recent past but these things were overlooked by the authorities, she said.

Corporator Ch Suresh said that the issue was brought to the notice of the Municipal Council and the repair work was pending due to lack of funds. People from Vidyadharapuram, Ajit Singh Nagar and other places in the city were facing the same problem, they said.
