Mines department of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant started mining operations at KQM on May 31 after obtaining statutory clearances and permissions.

Visakhapatnam: The Kintada Quartz Mine located in K Kotapadu mandal in the district is a captive mine of RINL. Quartz is used in the form of lumps and fines in the iron making process. Mines department of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant started mining operations at KQM on May 31 after obtaining statutory clearances and permissions.

The first consignment of products from the KQM, quartz lump was delivered to the steel plant in Visakhapatnam on June 30. PK Rath, Director (Operations) RINL, graced the occasion and formally received the consignment at the plant stockyard at the RMHP zone by breaking the seal of the packing and giving clearance for stacking the quartz lump in the stockyard.

With the receipt of quartz from KQM, a captive mine of VSP, the security for the raw material is now ensured for the plant. OR Ramani, Executive Director (Works), received the documents of consignment from N Gummalla, General Manager (Mines). Other senior officers of the plant, leaders of trade unions and SEA were present on the occasion.
