​: Vikrama Simhapuri University (VSU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof V Veeraiah made an appeal to the chairmen of boards of studies for giving priority to employability while revising the syllabus of various courses. He addressed a meeting of boards of studies in the varsity campus on Wednesday. He said more emphasis should be given to job-oriented courses.

The VC reviewed functioning of two boards of studies out of 14 on Wednesday and remaining 12 subjects would be reviewed on Thursday. He stressed on the need for revising syllabus according to directions of the State government and also in accordance with the semester system. Veeraiah said discussions should be focused on teaching, practical exams and evaluation mechanism besides preparing list of senior teachers in the affiliated colleges.

He said they have been preparing syllabus according to the needs of the industry keeping in view of avenues to the students, who completed various courses in the VSU and hence they had inducted two members from industry into the boards of studies.
Registrar of the varsity Prof PR Sivasankar said each board has to concentrate on curriculum for improving skills of students.

Though the AP State Council of Higher Education has prepared common core syllabus there was a provision for making 20 per cent changes in syllabus according to local needs. There should be 60 per cent subject, 20 per cent core competencies and another 20 per cent related to technical skills, he said.

College Development Council Dean Prof M Chandraiah said powers are vested with boards of studies for balancing both teaching and evaluation for better results and maintaining good standards. He said this is the first time meetings for boards were conducted after all colleges in the district were affiliated to the VSU.
